Christmas: The Season for the Underdogs
The holidays are not only a time of giving and spending time with your family, it is also an important time for movies as two of them are all about the human spirit.
The Pursuit of Happyness
Will Smith is gaining Oscar buzz in this film based on the true story of Chris Gardner. During the 1980s, he was a man broke and homeless raising his young son (Jaden, Smith's real-life son) after his wife left him. Finding a job as an stockbroker intern, Gardner went on to become a successful self-made businessman.
Sylvester Stallone takes the Italian Stallion back to the big screen in what is the sixth and final chapter of the iconic movie franchise that made him an international superstar. As writer, producer, director, and star, Stallone wanted to right wrongs from Rocky V, which didn't do well at the box office in 1990. This time, the classic Everyman underdog steps into the ring one last time to go the distance once again.
Both films are receiving critical praise and are strong performers at the U.S. box office.
These movies are all about two men overcoming the odds with sheer persevance and believing in themselves. Despite doubts from others saying that they can't do it, these heroes DID do it because they never stop reaching for their goals. They continue to keep going as they never gave up. These men didn't fight for themselves but bigger than them such as respect, family, and love.
See The Pursuit of Happyness and Rocky Balboa in theatres now.
Like the Italian Stallion said: it ain't over 'til it's over.
