Charmed gets the Seven Year Itch on DVD

Charmed gets the Seven Year Itch on DVD

By Garrett Godwin

Dark times are ahead for the Halliwell sisters in season seven of Charmed, now on DVD. This season, all 22 episodes, continues to follow the trials and tribulations of the Charmed Ones, the most powerful good witches ever.  However, after years of fighting the forces of evil and saving people, the sisters are battle weary and tired.  Nevertheless, none is more burnt-out than their Whitelighter, brother-in-law, and Piper's true love Leo (Brian Krause).

After vanquishing, former mentor and friend, Gideon saved his son Wyatt in last season's finale; Leo falls from grace, unsure of what is good and evil anymore. However, the love and support of Piper (Holly Marie Combs), his family, and his sons Wyatt and Chris, Leo slowly starts to find his way again.

While Piper and Leo work things out, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) goes on a hiatus from giving advice on love until she finds love herself.  She almost found it twice with her "ghostwriter" Lesile (Nick Lachey) and ex-demon Drake (Billy Zane).  Paige (Rose McGowan) almost found love with handsome Fed Kyle Brody (Kerr Smith), who is a man with not only a mysterious background, but he is also on a mission.

Season seven finds the Halliwells' police friend, Lt. Darryl Morris (Dorian Gregory), on a crossroads also.  After being almost put to death last season, he decides to stop helping the Charmed Ones to protect his job as well as his family. He continues to be there for them when they are in need of help.  However, both Morris and the Halliwells made an enemy out of Inspector Sheridan (Jenya Lano), who is out to expose our heroines, even if it means taking Darryl with them.

This season marks the return of fan favorite, Julian McMahon as Cole, who comes to help Piper and Leo reunite so Phoebe's faith in love is restored in the 150th episode, "The Seven Year Witch".  Oder Fehr (The Mummy trilogy, Sleeper Cell) joins the cast in a reoccurring role as the latest "Big Bad", Zanoku.

Season seven has been Charmed's best.  Knowing that the battle between good and evil is eternal, the Charmed Ones and Leo are disillusioned and tired, unsure of who is on their side anymore.

So enter the Avatars, who said they are neither good nor evil, but claims that they can end the war once and for all, promising utopia.  Believing that they can finally have normal lives for not only them, but also their kids, the family decides to accept the Avatars' offer.  However, what they soon realize that there is a price to pay for utopia.

The writing was on the wall for Charmed this season due to ratings, and season seven could have been the last with the finale "Something Wicca This Way Goes".  However, thanks to the 11th hour, it was renewed for an eighth and final season.

Watch as Piper, Phoebe, and Paige deal with the blessings and curses of being seven-year witches in Charmed: the Complete Seventh Season, now on DVD.
