Celebrate 10 years of Buffy with the first season on DVD

By Garrett Godwin

The 1990s was a decade where fighting the forces of evil and saving the world wasn't a man's job.  It was also a woman's job, starting with Xena: Warrior Princess in 1995. Now, two years later, came Buffy, The Vampire Slayer.  Based on the 1992 movie, the series starred Daytime Emmy winner Sarah Michelle Gellar (All My Children) as the title character.  Blessed and cursed with her powers and abilities, Buffy battles dark forces in Sunnydale.  Joss Whedon, who wrote and directed the film, is also the creator and executive producer of the series, which is available on DVD.

Season one features all 12 episodes, including the two-hour premiere that started it all, in which Whedon brings his true vision of his heroine to life on the small screen.  This freshman season introduces the Slayer in her sophomore year in Sunnydale High, where she find allies with Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendan), and her Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head).  This was also the season that one of the most tragic yet beautiful love stories on television began: the story of Buffy and Angel (David Boreanaz).

The DVD has also extras including audio commentaries and interviews with Whedon and Boreanaz.  The journey of the Slayer began with season one of Buffy, available on DVD.

For every generation, there is one.  She alone will stop the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness.  She is the Slayer.

But you know as Buffy Anne Summers.
