Fame is Calling Your Name - Student's of the Unusual Film Contest

Want to become famous in a minute and a half?

You'll have your chance if you enter FLORIDA TODAY's short film contest, 90 Seconds to Fame.

We're looking for films of 90 seconds or less in four categories: comedy (scripted funny story), drama (scripted serious story, such as thriller, romance and horror), documentary and home movies (real moments from your life).

There will be a winner in each category, plus an overall winner, determined by viewers' votes on the videos at florida Voting begins Aug. 21. In addition, there will be a critics' choice award chosen by film professionals.

Here's where the fame comes in: The winning films will be shown at the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival (, which takes place Nov. 1-3.

Make sure you check out the rules on Page 12E. Among them: The contest is open to Brevard County residents and graduates of Brevard high schools who might be living somewhere else. And we'll take submissions in QuickTime (preferred) or WMV format on CD or DVD, which must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 1. Larger file sizes are better; we'll take care of the compression.
