Vestige of the Vox Populi # 35

An enigmatic trailer for a movie with no name given surreptitiously appeared in the previews of the Transformers premier, suffused with an intrigue instigating a frenzy of chatter and speculation throughout the internets. Presented in a Blair Witch style vlogish realism, it is generally and generically referred to as Cloverfield or 1-18-08. Although mysteriously and unconventionally absent of title, the trailer does reveal that it is the work of J.J. Abrams-- the creative mind behind other pop-cult sensations like LOST, Alias and the next Star Trek film. 1-18-08 seems to actually be the movie’s name. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/ Cleverly, the trailer does exactly what a trailer should do: give the audience a hint of the what’s to come and get our attention. A viral publicity campaign seems underway, spreading by word of mouth and cultivated by deliberate curiosity. http://1-18-08.com
