Star Trek's Sulu (George Takei) To Wed Gay Lover

Star Trek's Sulu (George Takei) To Wed Gay Lover

By Robert Paul Reyes

The original Star Trek series was ahead of its time; it featured an interracial ensemble cast. Nichell Nichols-- an African American-- was the Communications officer, George Takei-- an Asian American-- portrayed the Helmsman, and Leonard Nimoy-- a Vulcan-- played the second-in-command. The Star Trek cast was ethnically diverse, even including an alien, but it didn`t have a gay character.

George Takei (Sulu) is a Gay American, and he is going to wed his same-sex partner of 21 years:

"George Takei reportedly has invited several of his former `Star Trek` co-stars to his upcoming wedding to Brad Altman in California.

The New York Post said Altman dropped to one knee and proposed to his 71-year-old partner when the California Supreme Court ruled last month that gay marriage was legal."

I hope there was somebody there to help the 71-year-old Takei up, after he dropped to one knee and proposed to his long-time lover.

Dr McCoy: Jim, he`s fallen and he can`t get up. By God, I think Sulu is dead.

I think it`s great that Takei`s former co-stars will be there to celebrate his wedding, but it`s unfortunate that William Shatner didn`t receive an invitation.

May Sulu and his partner live long and prosper. Live long might be too optimistic, given their ages, but may they at least prosper.
