Ellen DeGeneres And Portia de Rossi To Tie The Knot This Weekend
"Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will marry this weekend in California, Usmagazine.com reports.
The pair are reportedly planning a small, intimate ceremony with only a few close friends and family.
Following the California Supreme Court`s ruling that same sex couples have the right to marry, DeGeneres announced she planned to wed her longtime girlfriend on a taping of her talk show in May."

This story illustrates how far gays and lesbians have come in their long struggle for equality. But it also shows how far they still have to go to enjoy the same freedoms as other Americans.
It`s terrific that gays and lesbians can marry in California and Massachusetts, but that still leaves 48 states that discriminate against them. California is a trend setter, and I`m persuaded that within my lifetime same-sex marriage will be legal in every state.
I`m also convinced that one day when two lesbian celebrities tie the knot, it will be newsworthy only because of their fame and not because of their sexual orientation.
It`s sad and disappointing that both Barack Obama and John McCain would deny Ellen and Portia the right to marry. But I wouldn`t put Obama and McCain in the same boat, Obama opposes the California Marriage Amendment that states, "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California", while McCain supports it.
But politics aside, congratulations to the happy brides!
