Movie Star Paul Newman Dead At 83

Movie Star Paul Newman Dead At 83

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.

Paul Newman was one of those rare cool guys whom average shlobs not only envied, but liked. Newman`s food products were so successful because he was such a likeable celebrity. Tom Cruise may be a gifted actor, but he doesn`t have the charisma to be a success selling food products bearing his name.

Fonzie may not have been cool without his motorcycle jacket, and Indiana Jones may not have been quite as dashing without his Fedora, but Paul Newman was always cool even if he was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.

Newman was cool, talented and a decent human being. The screen legend gave most of the proceeds from "Nature`s Own", his food company, to charity.

Newman had many memorable roles in classics like "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Exodus," "The Hustler," "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting", "The Verdict and "The Color of Money."

We will miss Newman the movie star, cool guy, successful food pitchman, philanthropist, race car driver, and happily married man.

Fortunately, Newman will live forever on the silver screen as Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and dozens of other timeless fictional characters.

Maybe I should knock over a parking meter in memory of the film legend.
