Leno's Condition Not As Serious As First Predicted

By Christopher HIllenbrand

A spokesman for the long-time host of "The Tonight Show" reports that Jay Leno is recuperating just fine after the star spent the night in a hospital and is expected to be discharged sometime today.

Dick Guttman, Leno`s publicist, spoke on behalf of the doctors treating the host`s condition saying the illness wasn`t "symptomatic of anything serious." Guttman refused to comment on Friday concerning why Leno was hospitalized in the first place early Thursday.

The former standup comedian, who turns 59 this coming Tuesday, was admitted for observation overnight on Thursday, his publicist continued. Leno is predicted to fully recover and be back before a live studio audience at the NBC`s Burbank studios on Monday.

Because of Leno`s health scare, NBC postponed live tapings of "The Tonight Show", and instead aired re-runs in their place Thursday and Friday.

This was Jay Leno`s first hiatus from the show due to illness during the television season since Leno took over "The Tonight Show" for Johnny Carson in 1992.
