Did Your Fave Make NBC's List Of TV's 50 Funniest Phrases?

By Robert Paul Reyes

With the proliferation of new media TV no longer has an iron grip on pop culture. In the old days it was TV or the movies that introduced new stars, but today many individuals have found fame on YouTube or Twitter.

TV still has a huge impact on pop culture, and many of the catch phrases from our favorite shows live on long after the programs go off the air. Last night NBC aired "TV`s 50 Funniest Phrases", and I`m sure it inspired a long of arguments around the water cooler.

It`s an outrage that my fave phrase "I pity the fool" wasn`t included on the list. I don`t tolerate any jibba jabba, and I pity the fool at NBC who left Mr. T`s trademark phrase of the list.

My second favorite phrase is "Lucy, you`ve got some splainin` to do", even folks who don`t know Lucy from Oprah Winfrey have been heard to mutter this phrase.

Some of these phrases may seem dated or corny, but back it the day they were quite popular. When "In Living Color" was a hit rarely a day went by that I didn`t tell someone: Homey, don`t play dat! This may make me sound like a doofus, but I even greeted my friends with the phrase made popular in "What`s Happening": Hey, Hey, Hey!

I can`t argue with the selection of "Yada, yada, yada" as the top phrase, even Philistines who don`t know the Soup Nazi from Newman often utter this phrase.

"D`oh" from "The Simpsons" is a good choice for #2, I`m a real klutz and I`ve said this immortal phrase hundreds of times.

The bo*b tube may have competition from the movies, but I don`t think the Internet is going to popularize too many catch phrases. I heart you?

What are your fave TV catch phrases? Send me your comments.
