Lady Gaga Condemns Homophobia In The Rap Game

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Juggernaut songstress Lady Gaga`s not afraid to speak her mind, especially when it comes to her gays, and in a taped recording with On the Record with Fuse, which airs Nov. 23, Gaga tackled homophobia and misogyny in hip hop.

"I feel even just in the music industry that there`s very public misogynistic and homophobic behavior," the "Bad Romance" singer told the show earlier this month.

Gaga, who has admitted to dalliances with women and says her break-out song "Poker Face" is about bisexuality, went on to say, `When I hear one of the most famous rappers in the world say something homophobic on the radio, I want people to yell at him."

With very few exceptions rap records have no socially redeeming values, hip hop lyrics glorify materialism, gangsterism, homophobia and misogyny.

White critics overlook the many flaws of the rap genre because the cowards are afraid of being perceived as racists. Most of the crusaders against this infantile form of music are African Americans.

I commend Lady Gaga for speaking out against the homophobia and misogyny rampant in hip hop. Black rappers shuck and jive and basically act like thuggish clowns for the entertainment of mostly white folks. Minstrel shows are alive and well, rappers might as well put on blackface as they caricature the black experience in their records and videos.

Lady Gaga has legions of gay fans, and I`m sure they are thrilled at her bold stance against bigotry. Everyone who hates bigotry and homophobia should join Lady Gaga in condemning the homophobia and misogyny in the rap game.
