World Falls In Love With American Idol Barney Babe Erica Rhodes
ITZKOFF laments that young women feel compelled to oversexualize themeselves to prove that they are no longer girls. There`s a lot of truth to Itzkoff`s observations, but I had a visceral not an intellectual reaction to Erica`s over-the-top performance.
"To recap Ms. Erica Rhodes`s `Idol` debut: the 23-year-old graduate student from Irving, Tex., was first seen talking with Ryan Seacrest, recounting her days as a child actor who appeared on the kids` show "Barney and Friends." Over footage from that show, in which her younger self is seen hugging a stuffed panda-bear toy, Ms. Rhodes said, `I was innocent, sweet, child-like.` Then she entered the audition room and sang En Vogue`s `Free Your Mind` - dressed as a dominatrix and cracking a whip. (She also sang a verse from the "Barney" theme song.)" Dave Itzkoff/New York Times
"I love you, you love me, we`re a happy family,
with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won`t you say you love me too?"
Barney`s theme song is guaranteed to make grown men scream like schoolgirls, and terrorists confess to everything from 9/11 to global warming.
Whenever I`m at a friend`s house and I hear that diabolical song emanating from the TV, I get down on my knees and thank God there are no Barney-loving brats in my home.
But after hearing Erica Rhodes singing the Barney theme song in a dominatrix outfit, I love that song now. I have an irresistible urge to give Barney a big hug. I won`t mention what I have an irresistible urge to do with Erica.
God bless Barney, God bless Erica, God Bless American Idol! Life is wonderful!
Erica`s rendition of the Barney theme song, is the best American Idol performance of all time. If Erica whips Randy and Simon they will never vote her off the competition. Kara strikes me as a bit of a freak-a-leak, if Erica whips her as well, she will be the next American Idol.
Watch this video, and you will agree with me that Erica Rhodes is a gift from God.
