Lee DeWyze Burns Up The iTunes Charts
"American Idol 2010 winner Lee DeWyze is riding high on his success as the Illinois singer has scored two simultaneous songs in the top ten pop singles chart in iTunes.
The achievement is remarkable because DeWyze is yet to record a major label debut album.
DeWyze`s studio version of Hallelujah, the song which is believed to help him bag the coveted Idol title, is placed at number six on the pop chart.
His single Beautiful Day fared much better and is at number three on the pop chart. His duet to runner up Crystal Bowersox `Falling Slowly` is at number twelve at the moment." Read More
There have been very few overnight successes in pop music history, most artists played for years in bars and community centers before they hit the big time and sold out arenas and stadiums.
But with the advent of YouTube and American Idol and similar programs more singers are shooting straight to the top without paying any dues.
Case in point: It hasn`t even been a week since Lee DeWyze won the American Idol crown, but already he has two songs in the top ten singles chart in iTunes, and an album he recorded some time ago is currently at number twenty on the iTunes rock album chart.
In the old times of vinyl records, it took a long time to craft a finished product, but today a song can be posted immediately online.
I congratulate Lee DeWyze on his instant success, but only time will tell if he will still have songs on the charts five years from now.
