Words of Warning Against Childhood Obesity
DC Expert Offers Advice and Programming
that may not only prevent but also even reverse this life-threatening trend
- It is not without great reflection that FUNFIT adopted for its tagline "Where Fitness is Child`s Play", indeed it is an accurate reflection of Celia Kibler`s commitment to children`s health. As the owner of FUNFIT, Kibler has developed programs that not only prevent but also may combat obesity in children by making fitness fun and family-inclusive. Celia Kibler has been featured for her expertise on the subject of childhood obesity numerously in a number of Associated Press articles, on local television, and as an invited radio-guest.
Funfit`s unique programming is designed so that the child and the participating parent both receive a heart-healthy workout together and is based on facts on how-to-reach optimal fitness. ``At our center we also offer a complete range of enrichment classes for kids ages 0-12 years including our newest Funfit program Kids Yoga, music, art, kung fu, infant massage and sign language. As well as Birthday Parties, Camps and Open Gym," explains Kibler.
According to the US Surgeon General, there is currently an epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States that includes 9 million children over the age of 6, and parents are increasingly looking for ways to help their children walk down a healthier path, along with them. The World Health Organization`s members recently met in Australia and declared that for the first time in mankind history more people suffered from obesity than the opposite, and also noted that the greater problem was seen with youth with poor lifestyle habits.
In addition, there are no signs of that trend reversing without a complete societal makeover and a new approach to how family spends their time together.
According to Kibler, "Often, the very best defense against child obesity is an immediate and strong parental intervention and lifestyle change. In most cases, the child is mimicking the parent`s approach to physical activities and healthy eating patterns, which is why our programs are designed to involve the whole family. Many of our classes incorporate nutrition & health into the class curriculum. We also offer Funfit classes in satellite locations throughout the Washington DC metro area, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun."
