ExxonMobil represented at major children's health campaign in Mali

By SOP newswire

Dr. Steven Phillips, ExxonMobil`s medical director of global issues and projects, has been in the Republic of Mali this week as part of the UN Foundation`s observation team for the African country`s largest ever public health event.

The program, which ran through Dec. 19, is targeting more than 2.6 million children under five with five interventions designed to reduce the spread of disease and improve long-term health prospects:

  • Measles vaccinations
  • Polio vaccinations
  • Long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets
  • De-worming medication
  • Vitamin A supplements

Dr. Phillips was the only representative from the private sector with the delegation and the first business leader ever invited to participate in a campaign of this type. Other organizations involved include the Measles Initiative, World Health Organization, UNICEF, U.S. Centers for Disease Control, American and Canadian Red Cross, Malaria No More, the U.S. President`s Malaria Initiative, USAID and a host of other non-profit and governmental agencies.
