General of the Security Service, Given Outstanding Achievement Award

By SOP newswire

Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, the Director General of the Security Service, has been given the Outstanding Achievement award in a competition run by parliamentary publisher Dods and financial institution Scottish Widows. Aimed at encouraging the engagement of women in politics, the civil service and community leadership, the scheme celebrates women leaders in society.

Shortlisted by a panel of parliamentary and public service judges in the Public Servant of the the Year category, Dame Eliza went on to win the largest number of votes from parliamentarians for this category. Members of the Houses of Commons and Lords considered achievement in the nominees line of work, inspirational qualities, and how nominees have demonstrated passion, drive and energy, before casting their vote.

One of ten category winners, Dame Eliza then went on to win the judges` vote for the Outstanding Achievement award. This recognises "the woman who has achieved her full potential within her chosen field, who has inspired others around her to do likewise and who has made an outstanding contribution to public life".

Dame Eliza accepted the award at a ceremony held in London on 8 March.
