Is the Governor Really Corrupt???

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case against the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, on June 28. According to the CIAA, the Governor embezzled Rs.24.5 million while terminating a contract of a foreign company in the multi-million dollar Financial Sector Reforms Programme launched with foreign aid. The Foreign company who tried reform the Nepal Rastra Bank was asked to leave by the Governor.

Mr. Surendra Man Pradhan, the executive director of the bank's Financial Institutions Regulation Department, was also charged for his involvement in the corruption. But he was released on the bail of Rs.50,000. The Government has suspended both the officials from their job until the case will be running on the court. According the law, the government officials get suspended if a case if filed against them for any fraudulent activities.

Soon, the country will be having its Budget and Financial Programme, and it is such a headache for the Finance Minister that the Governor is under custody. It is most likely that it will affect the financial programme and the Budget's programmes as well. The special court, on Thursday, ordered police to detain suspended Governor of NRB Bijay Nath Bhattaria until further notice from the court.

Some officials of Nepal Rastra Bank are protesting the CIAA charge against their boss. The public are also much concerned about this case. Is the Governor really Corrupt? Well, further investigation and the proof to be presented by CIAA will determine this.
