Increasing fight against world hunger

By Ana P.

In spite of numerous international pledges to eliminate world hunger, the number of hungry people is still growing.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urges to take action, in form of long-term solutions for fighting against the global food crisis. According to Ban, an approximate amount $2.5 billion is needed just as a short-term solution for the food crisis. The UN Secretary asked the International Community of States to donate as much as possible, in order to prevent hunger and undernourishment.

Together with the World Bank, the UN launched a special group, in order to fight against the explosion of the food prices. Ban Ki-moon said that he has already come to an agreement with several leaders of different UN Organisations about numerous medium-term, as well as long-term measures for the fight of world hunger.

Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Robert Zoellik have also asked for an end to the export ban. According to Zoellik, this restriction aggravates the food crisis and damages the poorest of the world, who already have to fight for their living.
