The Dying Art of Proofreading

The Dying Art of Proofreading

By Lalit Goel

There could perhaps be a debate on the subject of proofreading being an art or science. Prudently leaving such discussion and decision to the experts, it may be worthwhile to sidestep this issue and quickly move to the proof of lack of proofreading as observed over a period of time through the headlines of various news papers.

To say the least, the collection below is hilarious while conveying a meaning very different from as intended:

1.      Something Went Wrong in Jet Crash, Expert Says

( Something", really?)

(Now that`s taking things a bit far!)

8.      Cold Wave Linked to Temperatures

(So sad, who would have thought it to be so!)

9.      Enfield (London) Couple Slain; Police Suspect Homicide

(They may be on to something!)

10.  Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges

(You mean there`s something stronger than duct tape?

11.  Man Struck By Lightning: Faces Battery Charge
