Chess board killer trial begins in Russia

By SOP newswire

The first day of the trial of Aleksandr Pichushkin, the Russian man accused of murdering 49 people, has started. After his arrest last year Aleksandr Pichushkin claimed that he had taken the lives of more than 60 people, but he has refused to testify at today's hearings.

It's been reported that he was aiming for 64 killings, one for every square of a chess board that was found in his apartment.

The majority of the murders took place in Bitsovsky Park in the south of Moscow.

Aleksandr Pichushkin has admitted his guilt and faces life in prison.
