Florida Wing squadrons support EAA event for youth

By SOP newswire

FLORIDA -- Eleven members from Civil Air Patrol Florida Wing's Timber Creek and DeLand composite squadrons teamed up Sept. 23 to support an Experimental Aircraft AssociationYoung Eagles Fly Day.

The event, hosted by the EAA's Orlando Chapter, allowed more than 50 youths from ages 7-17 to take to the skies during airplane familiarization flights. The two CAP squadrons provided flight line marshalling and safety escorts and manned a CAP aerospace education and recruiting display.

While the Young Eagle Flights were the main focus of the day, CAP also sparked a great deal of interest from the flight passengers, their parents and local media.

The CAP members also received many words of thanks and praise from the EAA. Plans are already in the works to support future events.
