Commando Brigade detains nine terrorist suspects

Camp Striker, Iraq " Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), detained nine suspected terrorists in three separate incidents, Dec. 14 - 15.

Company D, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment detained five men near al Taqa, west of Yusufiyah, Iraq Dec. 14.

The Soldiers observed three men near a blue flat bed pick-up truck congregating around a pot hole in the side of the road. The men fled on foot into a house as the Soldiers approached to investigate. The Soldiers entered and cleared the house, detaining the three.

As the Soldiers searched the outlying area, they discovered two more men stripping electrical wires, preparing to wire improvised explosive devices. The Soldiers detained these two suspects as well.

Upon returning to the pothole, the Soldiers found a partially buried improvised explosive devise.

In a separate incident, Company C, 4-31 Inf. detained three men wanted for their alleged ties to the former regime and al Qaeda terrorism cells as part of Operation Polar Vise Dec 15.

Also on Dec 15, Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, detained one individual six miles north of Yusufiyah, Iraq for alleged involvement in IED placement along Iraqi Highway 1. An IED exploded while the Soldiers were conducting during a route clearing mission.

The unit searched the area and encountered two men in a house near the explosion site. One man implicated the other in the IED incident. The man implicated was detained. The other man was released.

All nine suspects are being held for further questioning.
