Adventureland: Review Of The 2009 Movie

By Angela Cecil

The movie, Adventureland, directed by Greg Mottola, which was released on DVD August 25th 2009, is a very real-life " story, dedicated to young adults who are just learning to fend for themselves and start out in life.  A group of teenagers work together at a theme park, one bright summer in the 80`s.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Stewart and JesseEisenberg, shows the true life situations that we all go thorugh, the pain of young love, deceit, alcohol consumption under age, and infidelity.  Adventureland gives us the glimpse of how a young adult faces the consequences of betrayal, ruining relationships, and how they mend those relationships.

Adventureland does have a few vulgar parts but that is always part of life.   That is what drew me to this movie, was the pragmatic situations, and they definitely aren`t sugar-coated.  This film is a novelty for a change, because the story of a group of teens working for an amusement park, could happen anywhere, to anyone.  Their life stories are what really is interesting.

Since we all struggle with finding out who we are and also, how to dull the bleak pain and hard parts of life, this rated R flick is a true lifetime story that most people, of all ages, can relate to.  I would recommend watching this film.  It is definitely a drama with a few surprises and twists to the characters, but most of all, it deals with people changing with the problems they face, in the best way that the characters can.

Quote from the IMDB website: "A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it`s the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world"
