Judyth Piazza chats with Lucie Diamond, UK 's number 1 Country Music Export
"Singing sensation Lucie Diamond, the UK `s number 1 Country Music Export"......
LUCIE DIAMOND blasted onto the international country music scene at the start of 2005, with her headline-grabbing debut single, That`s What I Like About You ", featuring Grammy-winning guitar legend Albert Lee.
A huge hit on radio worldwide, spending a record 10 consecutive weeks at # 1 in the British country chart and reaching # 5 in the prestigious European CMA chart.
In just 2 years, she scored 5 major hits in the main European CMA country chart and airplay in up to 60 countries. Rock and roll stars The Jets played on her 4 th single - a chart topper. Norway `s Arly Karlsen dueted on Lucie`s first number one record.
Lucie Diamond - described by the UK`s 8m readers a day tabloid newspaper The Sun, as "a cross between Joss Stone and LeAnn Rimes" - is the ONLY British country artist to have 2 consecutive number ones in the main European country chart - plus a # 5 & # 2 & # 7 - and all this in little over a year!
Lucie wowed audiences in the UK , Denmark , Norway and Berlin in 2005 & 2006. In April 2006 she won an ovation when she opened for Live Aid star Paul Young, at his request, at a sold-out London show.
In May last year, she visited Nashville for the first time and was overwhelmed with the response to her live shows. Lucie also wrote with some big name songwriters, was in demand from the media and was asked to give private showcase acoustic performances to magazines, radio stations, record labels and major music business execs. She also performed an emotional private show to the children, parents and staff at the Vanderbilt hospital.
In July `06, Lucie swept the board at the annual European CMA country music awards in Spain . Winning 3 of her 4 nominations - more awards than any other artist - with Dolly Parton just snatching the 4th, Lucie was voted "Female Vocalist of the Year," beating Dolly, Faith Hill and Gretchen Wilson to the title.
The ONLY British artist to win an award in the 2006 awards, judges also decided she was worthy of "European Artist of the Year" and ECMA "Future Star Award."
Lucie re-visited the USA in October and into November last year. She was invited to make a 2nd visit to the world famous Bluebird Cafe, to sing her own songs - along with many more prestigious gigs in Music City that month. All very well attended, thanks to major press and media coverage of her visit, inc the national `paper The Tennessean.
Lucie`s management Kudos Music UK, arranged a private "by invitation only" industry showcase for music biz VIPs, at prestigious venue 12th & Porter, following many requests by record labels and Music Row executives after her sizzling Nashville debut in May.
Platinum-selling country star Jason Aldean loaned Lucie his full band for the showcase set, and a film crew captured the event for Cyber Country TV.
Over 150 music industry VIPs, including 8 record labels were in attendance and Lucie won a standing ovation and rave reviews.
She will be back in Nashville in May and June this year, by invitation of the powerful CMA, to represent the UK at their annual CMA Global Artist Party in downtown Nashville . She will be the only female artist on a bill with 5 male country artists from Australia , Canada and Ireland .
Lucie will also record her latest songs to finish off the long-awaited debut CD "Sweet Medicine", songs co-written with the biggest names in that town on previous trips.
It`s a busy and exciting year for Lucie. She has her long-overdue debut album released, tours the UK , Middle East , South Africa and Europe . And while in the USA she revisits the world famous Bluebird cafe for her 3rd show there - on 1st June as guest of legendary songwriter Kent Blazy (If Tomorrow Never Comes etc with Garth Brooks.) Plus other high profile gigs.
On 14th July, Lucie headlines the biggest country festival in Europe, at Mirande in France to 40,000+ country fans. National French TV will film her set.
As busy as Lucie is with her career, she makes time for charities close to her heart. She is a "celebrity supporter" of the national British charity BLISS, dedicated to highlight work connected to premature babies, after she herself was born very premature and weighed less than 3lbs, given a 50-50 chance of survival.
* Lucie is a pro member of NSAI ( Nashville Song Writers Association International.)
*A Sterling member of the CMA.
* She was signed by Carlsbro to be their first female endorsee. The respected UK-based manufacturer of electronic equipment recognised Lucie`s star quality, huge potential and brilliant achievements. "
