Judyth Piazza chats with Sonya Bender, Award Winning Actress, Singer and Songwriter

Sonya Bender is an award-winning actress, singer and songwriter.  She has been recognized as one of the young faces to watch by PBS Arts Brief.  Bender is pursuing a career in film and television.  She has gained national exposure as ASCAP’s Teen Spokesperson for their education campaign against music piracy.  It is estimated that 2.2 million students will view Benders work and hear the original song she created for the project. 

Highlights of her regional stage credits include:  PUSH/The Fritz Theatre (Outstanding Actress, Fritz Blitz), Crave/Lynx Performance Theatre (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama, National Youth Theatre Award), A Christmas Carol/San Diego Repertory Theatre, In Arabia We’d All Be Kings/Lynx Performance Theatre (Best Ensemble Award PBS) and The Importance of Being Earnest/Actors Art Theatre.  She attended Conservatory at the La Jolla Playhouse and The Actors Academy and continues to study with Jolene Adams in Los Angeles. 

Most recently she has been asked to perform at the 2007 National Youth Entertainment Access Award ceremony to be held in Las Vegas.  This event is designed to acknowledge up and comers in the music industry under 19 years of age.  Check out Sonya Bender’s web site

Youth Entertainment Awards! Event Open To the Public Presented by Las Vegas Music Awards Group           

The Las Vegas Music Awards Group (LVMAG) announced a special event open to the public celebrating the arts and talents of youth nationwide at the pre-launch of the Youth Entertainment Awards! (YEA!) event to be held in the “Entertainment Capital of the World", Las Vegas, NV on Thursday, November 8, 2007. 

The event will be hosted by a young known celebrity host, to be announced in upcoming press release. The special event will take place on November 8, 2007 beginning at 4:30pm at The Horn Theater (College of Southern Nevada campus) located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Las Vegas, NV 89031. This Show will kick-off as a show that will be hosted by and feature performances by artists form across the United States. YEA! is designed to identify and promote the next generation of role models by rewarding aspiring artists, actors, radio personalities, and dancers' accomplishments in entertainment as well as in the classroom, community service, and their “Outstanding Contribution To Raise Awareness Through Music".  

YEA! is designed to be an extravaganza event introducing America’s Talented Youth and featuring dance routines and live music from the best independent young artists making their mark nationally. YEA! recognizes and celebrates youth ages 19 and under. Winners are selected for outstanding achievement in music and performing arts. Awards will be presented by well-known celebrity personalities and youth participants.  

Nominees at the YEA! Awards will be judged in several categories in the two age groups including: Outstanding Vocal Solo and Group Performance, Dance Solo and Group Performance, Instrumental Solo and Group Performance, Television/Film Performance, Song of the Year and Outstanding CD Release. This event provides a place for thousands of young people involved in entertainment to gather once a year and celebrate the music and performing arts scene.  

The multicultural diversified winners will be announced and feature select performances by different genres of music at the pre-launch of the YEA! Awards Gala scheduled for November 8, 2008 at The Horn Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Gala will benefit youth organizations and  multiple area schools from across the country. According to YEA!
