Haiti Charity Album First Digital-Only Release To Top Billboard Album Chart

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A charity album featuring performances from the Hope For Haiti Now telethon has gone straight to number one in the US album chart.

The compilation album is the first digital-only release to top the Billboard 200 chart.

The album sold 171,000 copies, music sales tracker Nielsen Soundscan said."

This event is the death knell of the CD format, soon CD`s will be as obsolete as cassettes and vinyl records.

I have a CD cabinet with hundreds of CDs, when my 20-year-old niece saw it she was shocked, she`d never seen so many CD`s in one place. My niece may burn a CD once in a while, but she downloads most of her music. It`s old fogies who have CD collections.

In the near future the Billboard album chart will be dominated by digital-only releases. When I was a young man records companies released singles in vinyl format and then in CD format, today singles are released only as digital downloads.

It`s a digital world and that`s bad news for record companies, and for old goats who couldn`t download a song if their lives depended on it.

We should all learn how to download music off the Internet, so we can help the Haiti relief efforts by buying a download of this great charity album.
