Judyth Piazza chats with Gail Hand, Speaker, Author and Humorist

Gail Hand, tagged sheina madela sugarpuss by her Grandmother Lottie, was reared on both coasts. With roots in New York and California, Gail has been sharpening her humor and wit across the entire country.  A professional speaker, author & humorist, Gail has logged 20 years of success in Corporate Sales & Management. She received degrees in Marketing and Buying & Merchandising from Fashion Institute`s in San Francisco and New York City.

Corporations such as American Express, Southwestern Bell, Macy*s, and several gourmet cookware manufacturers garnered Gail 3 rookie of the year awards,10 leadership awards, and a strange award for a pet multimedia presentation.    

Gail started her stand-up career in 1989 in San Francisco and has since toured over 200 Companies, Universities & Colleges in the U.S. and Canada.  With her `power of laughter` programs including; leadership, alcohol awareness, stress management, diversity trainings and lectures, Gail has been a positive movement on college campuses and companies.

Gail premiered her one woman show: "Hello Bubbela" in December 2005, a poignant and humorous homage to, her larger than life small Bronx matriarch, Grandma Lottie Hand.     In her first book:  The Power of Laughter:  Seven Secrets to Living and Laughing in a Stressful World, Gail shares her humor with the world on using laughter to deal with stressful situations.  By offering her unique, real life snapshots of life living in a body cast for a year in high school, combined with other poignant illustrations of the power of laughter, Gail drives her message home.

In addition, while living in Los Angeles, Gail honed her skills in Voiceover, Acting, and Improvisation. Gail`s programs are humorous, and offer a compelling look at overcoming adversity with a smile.   Great for keynotes, leadership programs, sales trainings, comedy shows and dynamite diversity training`s, Gail is sure to leave your campus or company laughing and thinking about celebrating our differences!

Gail is a Certified Laughter Leader with the World Laughter Tour, and a member of the Association for Applied Therapy on Humor, National Association of Campus Activities, and President-Elect for the Oregon National Speakers Association. She also holds a frequent wash card for her dogs at Beauty for the Beast.

In 2005 Gail has appeared on AM Northwest, along with featured stories in The Star, Lifestyles Northwest, Just Out, and Margie Boule`s Living Column in the Oregonian. The publications have featured her new work producing laughter therapy clubs in over 40 senior facilities and at the Coho Theater in Portland for the public.  She has also been quoted in the March issue of Women`s Health and Fitness magazine as a humor advocate.
