Sarah Palin,

Sarah Palin, Who does she thinks she is?

By Vincent Gonzalez

Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, for all her glitter and hype, is nothing more than a person being benefitted by white privilege. I mean, if you think about it, how is it that being a mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with more reindeer than people makes you even eligible to be considered for president. Whereas, a black U.S. Senator, a two-term state senator and a constitutional law scholar, means you`re unqualified.

 Sarah Palin,

She goes around joking about Sen. Obama`s time as a community organizer, yet she fails to understand that its community organizers who fight for civil rights, an end to child labor, and even the right for women to vote. Yet, if you even question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with practically no foreign policy experience at all beyond a class she took in college, you are somehow seen as being mean, and possibly sexist.

Only in America can you find a white woman not being accused of abusing her power, or even engaging in favoritisms when she is allowed to fire people who don`t support her political campaigns, whereas being black and barely knowing some people from the old political machines in Chicago means your somehow corrupt.

Even Gov. Palin`s husband, who was a member of an extremist political party that wanted their state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was, Alaska first, ? we are not even allowed to question Gov. Palin`s patriotism or that of her families, whereas if you`re black and your wife fails to attend a 9/11 memorial so she can attend to her children on their first day of school, society immediately thinks she`s being disrespectful.

I mean, its only through the reinforcement of white privilege is Gov. Palin allowed to attend churches whose pastors claim that people who criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and also whose pastors claim that the U.S. is a Christian nation, whose guest speakers claim that the conflict in the Middle East is God`s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus. But if you are a black man who is friends with a black pastor who has claimed, as has former U.S. Sectary of State Colin Powell that terrorist attacks are likely the result of U.S. foreign policy, you are somehow seen as a person who probably hate America?

Even as are economy is struggling to survive, people are losing their homes, and unemployment is skyrocketing only in America can Gov. Palin, whose running mate has voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time, can claim that their the ones who can fix this country. As it is, four more years of the same, which Gov. Palin and Sen. McCain offer seems more appealing to white voters, then the thing change ? (you know, the idea of something new, something different from the past) that Sen. Obama offers seem unattractive to white voters. Only in America can white privilege decide the fate of the world.
