Student Suspended For Dressing As Santa Claus

Student Suspended For Dressing As Santa Claus

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Strath Haven High School student has been suspended for wearing a Santa Claus suit to school.

Michael Hance says he told his principal that he planned to wear the suit to school last Thursday and hand out candy canes.

The 18-year-old senior said the principal told him that wasn`t a good idea because it would be a distraction.

But he wore the suit anyway, with regular clothes underneath in case he was asked to take it off." Read More

Principal MaryJo Yannacone promptly suspended Michael Hance. Some would argue that the principal was justified in suspending Hance because he demonstrated a flagrant disregard and contempt of authority.

Bah Humbug! Yannacone is giving Scrooge a bad name, by not making an allowance for a student`s creativity and desire to spread good will.

Hance wasn`t dressed all in black, waving the anarchist`s black flag and handing out incendiary pamphlets. The young student was dressed up as Jolly Old St. Nick, and handing out candy canes.

Hance didn`t dress up as Jesus, and admonish his fellow student to "Keep Christ in Christmas". Jesus in the schools is a controversial proposition, but who doesn`t love Santa Claus?

I commend Hance for his civil disobedience, and mission to bring a smile to students by passing out treats. Hance has the makings of a Martin Luther King or John F. Kennedy.

A happy Holiday Season to all, except for Yannacone, I hope Santa left her a lump of coals for Christmas.
