America Admires JetBlue Flight Attendant Steven Slater

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Quitting your job over a JetBlue cabin intercom? $0.

Grabbing two beers on your way out? $12.

Escaping your career via the airplane`s emergency chute and instantly becoming the most beloved disgruntled worker in America? Priceless.

After being hit on the head by an allegedly rude passenger`s luggage, JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater blew off some verbal steam on the intercom system, grabbed some beverages and slid out the emergency exit." Anjali Khosla Mullany/New York Daily News

Steven Slater now joins the pantheon of these heroes associated with the aviation industry: D.B. Cooper the man who hijacked a Boeing 727 airplane, and parachuted from the plane after receiving $200,000 in ransom, and Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger the pilot who miraculously landed his plane on the Hudson River.

Already there are YouTube and Facebook tributes for this legendary folk hero, who said "Take this job and shove it" with style and eloquence. One day Jesus himself will welcome Slater to heaven, but in the meantime it`s incumbent upon us to heap praise on this man of pride and virtue.

For every hundred timid employees who put up with abuse from arrogant supervisors and rude customers, there`s one heroic individual who quits his lousy job in a memorable way.

How many cubicle dwellers wish there was an emergency chute in their office? I reckon there are thousands of office workers who are going to put up images of Slater on their computer desktops.

As a tribute to hardworking men and women President Obama should do the right thing and make Slater the Czar of the flight attendants. What`s one more Czar? What the hell Slater should run for president of the United States, I don`t care if he`s a Republican, Democrat, or Communist, Slater has my vote.
