"The ancient Mayans may have had enough engineering know-how to master running water, creating fountains and even toilets by controlling water pressure, scientists now suggest."
Charles Q. Choi Special to LiveScience
Indoor toilets separates us from lower life forms. I am not a believer in "American Exceptionalism", I have respect and admiration for cultures that are very different from our own. But I have no admiration for a country where most of the citizens don`t have any running water, and defecate outdoors like animals.
The Maya is an ancient civilization, noted for its art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems. The Maya also had a fully developed written language, a remarkable achievement for a civilization that thrived 2000 BC.
Now that I learn that the Maya had toilets that flushed, I have even more respect for them. I am taking much more seriously the Maya calendar that predicts the world will end in 2012.
An ancient civilization that charted the movement of stars light years away from our Earth, and had running water must be taken seriously. The end of the world may be very near!
