A Koala Valentine Day's Love Story

A Koala Valentine Day's Love Story

By Robert Paul Reyes

The deadly Australia fires killed almost 200 people, and left multitudes homeless. Two of the survivors have become lovers and world-wide celebrities, with millions watching YouTube videos chronicling their love story.

The names of the couple who met in the aftermath of the inferno are Samantha and Bob, and they are not people but koala bears. You see human beings weren`t the only victims of the hellish blaze, millions of animals were killed.

"A love story between two badly burned koalas rescued from Australia`s deadliest bushfires has provided some heart-warming relief after days of devastation and the loss of over 180 lives.

The story of Sam and her new boyfriend Bob emerged after volunteer firefighter Dave Tree used a mobile phone to film the rescue of the bewildered female found cowering in a burned out forest at Mirboo North, 150 km (90 miles) southeast of Melbourne.

Photos and a video of Tree, 44, approaching Sam while talking gently to her, and feeding her water from a plastic bottle as she put her burned claw in his cold, wet hand quickly hit video sharing website YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XSPx7S4jr4), making her an Internet sensation." Reuters

The volunteer firefighter Dave Tree is a real hero, he has empathy for the pain of all living creatures. Instead of ignoring the suffering koala he ministered to her and saved her life.

The story of the two koalas who found romance in the midst of tragedy is perfect for Valentine`s Day. May we all have the big heart of Tree who didn`t turn a blind eye to the suffering of an animal, and may we experience love like those adorable koalas.
