Hundreds Celebrate The Birthday Of Linping The Panda

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Riot-stricken Thailand had something to smile about on Thursday as the nation`s only panda cub, who enjoys a cult-like following across the kingdom, celebrated her first birthday in style.

Hundreds of fans gathered at Chiang Mai zoo in northern Thailand for the birthday of Linping, whose birth surprised zookeepers after years of unsuccessful artificial insemination and efforts to get her parents to mate.

Linping has become so popular in her first year that Thai television has a live 24-hour `Panda Channel` following her every move, while a competition to name her last year attracted a staggering 22 million entries."

After a hard day`s work nothing makes me feel better than a slobbering kiss from my dog, or a warm meow from my cat. A pet can make you momentarily forget all about your trials and tribulations.

I`m not surprised that riot-stricken Thailand has gone crazy over a panda. Hundreds of fans gathered at the zoo for her birthday, and millions more watch her antics on the "Panda Channel."

I wish my cable company picked up the "Panda Channel", it would be a heck of a lot more entertaining than Lifetime or the Golf Channel.

The panda has five keepers devoted to her care, that`s what Lindsay Lohan needs: Five keepers to keep her away from drugs, alcohol, and unsavory characters.

Happy birthday Linping!
