For A Better America

For A Better America

By Anita Helton

The esteemed John F. Kennedy once said "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." These wise words are applicable in today's nation, just as they were when he uttered them.  A new group, Unity 08, is attempting to do what they can for our country, by working to elect a bipartisan ticket for the 2008 Election.

One avid advocate of the project, Chris Nulty, feels that this will "force politicians to talk about things that matter."  Founded by; Doug Bailey, Hamilton Jordan, Angus King, and Gerald Rafshoon, the Unity 08 project is turning students and anyone else interested to help put the right people in the White House.

The first stage of this project is to get support.  Advocators of this unity ticket are calling, emailing and speaking at every chance they get to show the importance of this issue.  They plan to hold a Unity Petition in November of this year at local poll sites.  Voters will be signing that they have done their duty by voting and are demanding that congress do theirs.

"This is about getting the best people into office" says Nulty.  He believes this is important because, "Many times abortion and gay marriage are the hot buttons in an election, but you are either on one side or the other.  Because of this, things like education and social security get pushed away because it doesn't get votes." Nulty is working with many others to change this.

Unity 08 is looking for all the support they can get; however, they want you to spread the word, rather than donate large sums of money. The organization is only accepting small donations, as they don't want to be controlled by special interests, like so many of today's politicians and political groups are.  They would rather represent the best interests of our great nation.

In June 2008, Unity 08 plans to hold an online convention to vote for the best candidates to represent America.  Any registered voter is encouraged to participate.  They want the constituents of the United States to be represented equally.  A balance in powers of our top officials just might do this.
