President Bush to Welcome German Chancellor to White House

Washington – President Bush will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House on January 4, according to a statement released December 29.

Their discussions will cover a broad range of global issues, the White House said, including Afghanistan, Israeli-Palestinian peace, support for the democratic government of Lebanon, Iran's nuclear activities, the final status for Kosovo, ending violence in Darfur, as well as free trade and related transatlantic economic issues.

Germany assumes the presidency of both the European Union and G-8 on January 1, 2007.
