Car bomb strikes Iraqi Security Forces

BAGHDAD—Insurgents detonated a car bomb near an Iraqi police patrol in western Baghdad, killing four Iraqi policemen and one civilian bystander Jan. 24. The policemen and two other civilians were wounded in the attack.
At approximately noon, elements of 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, were notified of a vehicle on fire in their area of operation.  Two patrols from battalion were in the area and responded to the scene.
Arriving at the location, the patrols found an Iraqi police truck and the remains of a car bomb on fire.  Iraqi police at the scene reported small arms fire to the southwest of the car bomb attack following the explosion. 
After securing the site, Iraqi police and a medic with 1-5 Cavalry treated an Iraqi female civilian and her daughter for shrapnel wounds and the three injured Iraqi policemen. 

All the injured were evacuated to a military medical facility for further treatment.
