Terrorist Act In Beirut and Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Terrorist Act In Beirut and Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

By SOP newswire

A car bomb exploded in a Christian district of Beirut on the evening of September 19.  Several people were killed and more than 20 others wounded, according to preliminary data.  Among the dead is a member of the Lebanese parliament, Antoine Ganem.

Moscow strongly condemns the new terrorist attack in a dreary series of political murders in Lebanon.  Its sponsors and perpetrators must be found and punished.

Obvious is the provocative nature of this crime.  The terrorist act was carried out at a time when efforts are being made in Lebanon to find an exit from the protracted internal political crisis, and primarily, to achieve consensus among major political forces in connection with the upcoming election for a new president of the country.

We hope that all Lebanese political leaders will show restraint and composure and continue dialogue to find national solutions in the interest of ensuring civil peace and harmony in Lebanon, its independent future and democratic development.  Destructive forces should not be allowed to thwart efforts to stabilize the situation in this long-suffering country.
