Working Visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Cape Verde, Victor Manuel Barbosa Borges
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Cape Verde, Victor Manuel Barbosa Borges, stayed on a working visit to the Russian Federation from October 8-10.
On October 10 Borges had talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, during which the sides discussed an extensive range of issues in Russian-Cape Verdean relations, and spoke for the necessity of building up the economic component of bilateral engagement, for intensifying trade links between Russia and Cape Verde, including those at the regional level, and for making fuller use of the capabilities of national entrepreneurial entities.
The ministers expressed the readiness to carry on the joint work on developing cooperation in energy, transport, the training of Cape Verdean personnel and tourism.
The talks have borne out the similarity of the two countries’ positions on most key issues of present-day international relations, and revealed a common interest in strengthening the UN’s role as the central mechanism in collective counteraction by the international community against the many challenges of today.
A thorough exchange of views took place on a number of questions of mutual concern, including the fight against international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and illegal migration. Special attention was devoted to the situation on the African continent.
During his stay in Moscow, Victor Borges had working sessions with senior officials from a number of Russian agencies and organizations.
