Russian MFA Information and Press Department Commentary Regarding US Court's Sentencing of Vladimir V. Kuznetsov

By SOP newswire

Moscow has received with disappointment the sentence of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York on former Chairman of the UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions Vladimir Kuznetsov, who was found guilty of an alleged money laundering " plot.

Kuznetsov does not admit his guilt. His arrest was preceded by the unjustifiably hasty lifting by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan of immunity from the ACABQ Chairman without consultations with the UN General Assembly and the Russian side.

The US judge sentenced Kuznetsov to 51 months in jail and a fine of 73,700 dollars, to be paid within 60 days after serving the term.

As is known, Russia has ratified the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, to which the US is a party. We do not rule out seeking to activate with respect to Kuznetsov the mechanisms envisaged by this treaty.
