Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets Anti-Defamation League and European Jewish Congress Leaders

By SOP newswire

On November 8, a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and senior officials of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) led by its National Director Abraham Foxman took place in Moscow. Also present at this meeting was Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC).

An exchange of views took place on the issue of stepping up joint efforts in the struggle against nationalism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism, of which the manifestations in Europe have been acquiring an ever broader character in the last few years.

Lavrov drew the attention of the ADL and EJC leaders to the alarming tendencies associated with the line of certain European states on reviewing the outcomes of World War II and making heroes of former nazi accomplices and war criminals guilty of mass annihilation of Jews and persons of other nationalities. Confidence was expressed that ADL and EJC will make their contribution to countering these dangerous tendencies and raise their authoritative voice in the international arena, particularly in specialized international organizations.

In the course of the meeting questions relating to the current situation in the Middle East and prospects for Middle East settlement, and the struggle for the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons also were touched upon.
