Ted Kennedy Delivers Moving Speech at Democratic Convention
We`ve all seen archival footage of the many memorable speeches that Sen. Edward Kennedy has delivered at Democratic conventions going back decades. A Democratic convention is not complete without one of Kennedy`s rousing speeches.
This year the 76-year-old Liberal Lion was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and we expected him to miss this year`s festivities. But the Happy Warrior surprised the Democratic faithful by once again delivering a moving speech at the Democratic gathering.
Caroline Kennedy and Maria Shriver were moved to tears during Kennedy`s address, but I`m sure there were also thousands of Americans of all political persuasions who wiped away a tear or two.
The Old Lion`s mane is now white as snow, and his gait was slow, but his booming roar was still intact as he rocked the auditorium.
You could feel the love in the arena as Kennedy said: My fellow Democrats, my fellow Americans, it is so wonderful to be here. The Obama/Clinton schism was momentarily forgotten, as all Democrats were united in their love and respect for the ailing patriarch.
As a tribute to Kennedy, Democrats should put aside their differences, and unite for the common purpose of rescuing America from four more years of Bush/McCain.
"This November, the torch will be passed to a new generation of Americans," Kennedy said, alluding to Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Kennedy may only have a year or less to live, but the Democratic ship is in goods hands with Obama and Biden at the helm.
With the proud legacy of the Kennedys and the promise of Obama, this is a good time to be a Democrat.
