Joe Biden: Hillary Might Have Been A Beter Pick Than Me
"Isn`t Joe Biden supposed to be the smart, politically savvy vice-presidential candidate? He sure looked dumb Wednesday.
At a campaign stop, Biden defended Hillary Clinton, saying to the crowd of supporters:
`She`s a truly close personal friend and she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she`s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me. I mean that sincerely, she`s first rate.`"
Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist
Sen. Joe Biden is experienced, knowledgeable on the issues and never at a loss for words. He`s a solid vice-presidential candidate who is ready to take over as president on day one, if misfortune befalls President Barack Obama.
But Biden has a long history of putting his foot in his mouth; stick a mic in his face and he won`t disappoint.
Biden`s statement was unnecessary and hurtful to the Obama campaign. Biden is calling into question Obama`s judgement in choosing him as his running mate. At a time when some undecided women are considering voting for McCain because of Palin, he didn`t need to remind them that Obama passed Hillary over and selected him.
Biden`s mission is to attack the opposition and to build up Obama; if he is incapable of fulfilling his designated role Obama should put him under wraps like McCain is doing with Palin.
Karl Rove isn`t often right, but he was spot on when he called Biden a "Big Blowhard Doofus."
Memo to Biden: Stop kissing up to Hillary Clinton and heap praise on Obama.
