Dick Cheney Remains An Unrepentant Neo-con
Thank goodness the end of George Bush`s tenure in the White House is only a few weeks away. I don`t think America could have survived another four years of a McCain-Bush administration.
In Bush`s farewell tour of Iraq he was unceremoniously pelted with shoes by a courageous Iraqi journalist, and in the homeland his approval ratings are in the gutter.
Bush is as inept as he was on his first day in office, and Dick Cheney is as evil as the day he was born. Most Americans agree that the war in Iraq was a fiasco, and that Guantanamo is a hated symbol of American imperialism. But Cheney hasn`t learned any lessons from the many failures of the Bush administration, he remains an unrepentant neo-con.
"The Guantanamo `war on terror` detention center should remain open indefinitely, Vice President Richard Cheney told ABC News in an interview Monday, while also defending the harsh interrogation method known as waterboarding.
Cheney was asked when the detention camp at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba can be `responsibly` be shut down. `Well, I think that that would come with the end of the war on terror,` he told ABC."
There is no country or other entity known as "terror", we are at war with Jihadists who use terror as a weapon. You can`t put the genie back into the bottle, terror will be with us for decades and perhaps centuries to come. Terror is the only way that radical groups and militarily weak countries can hurt the United States, and they will never give up their favorite tactic.
The "war on terror" is a farce, it`s an excuse for an imperial presidency to rob the American people of their right to privacy. I hope that the so-called "war on terror" will end with the Bush administration.
President-elect Barack Obama has promised to shut down Guantanamo Bay, but maybe he can keep it open for criminals like Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush.
