Celeb Goons Like Palin, Limbaugh, O'Reilly & Coulter Have Taken Over GOP

By Robert Paul Reyes

"David Frum, a Canadian-born commentator on American politics, has long been a fixture of the predictable U.S. right. No longer. Now, due to an excess of truth-telling, he`s out of a job.

sarah palinLately, Frum has deviated from type, criticizing his party`s hysterical opposition to health-care reform. Last week he broke the mould, penning a column in which he flat-out blamed Republicans for President Barack Obama`s big legislative victory last Sunday.

The U.S. Republican movement, Frum wrote, has been hijacked by a few high-profile media pundits - Rush Limbaugh, Bill O`Reilly, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin et al. - whose primary interest is not politics, but stirring up controversy to make money." Read more

Frum was fired by the American Enterprise Institute for telling the truth. The conservative movement doesn`t place a high premium on intelligent and reasoned discourse.

Conservatives eschew truth-tellers like Frum, and embrace blowhards like Palin and Limbaugh. It`s incendiary speech and half-truths that motivates people to vote, and the GOP doesn`t have room in its big tent for intelligent and thoughtful individuals.

Limbaugh, O`Reilly, and Coulter are entertainers, and they value controversy and ratings over truth and wisdom. I doubt if these clowns have an ideological bone in their body, they aren`t about politics, but show business.

Frum couldn`t be more right, the conservative movement has been hijacked by these entertainers who are in it for the money.

Sarah Palin in the worst offender in this category, and if the GOP bigwigs had any sense they would distance themselves from her. Palin isn`t interested in the nuts and bolts of politics; witness her abrupt resignation from her gig as Governor of Alaska. Palin is a celeb, pure and simple, and like every third-rate celeb she now has her own reality show.

If the GOP is to survive as a legitimate opposition party it must showcase men like Frum, and condemn and repudiate charlatans like Palin and Limbaugh.
