95-Year-Old Coot Runs For The Senate: What A Joke!

By Robert Paul Reyes

"At 92, the late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., had been the Senate`s oldest sitting member. One of the candidates in this month`s West Virginia Senate primary is hoping to take over the title, along with Byrd`s seat.

Ken Hechler is a 95-year-old veteran Democratic politician whose career dates back to a job in the Truman administration. Hechler served in the House from 1959 to 1977 and as West Virginia`s secretary of state from 1985 to 2001. Now, he hopes to succeed Byrd in the Senate." Read more

For the last few years of his tenure as a senator Robert Byrd was a senile old coot who didn`t know a bill from a hole in the ground. Like the movie "Weekend at Bernie`s" Byrd would be wheeled into the Senate for major votes and told how to vote.

We don`t need another doddering old fool in the Senate, Hechler is too damn old to be running for the Senate. The odds of Hechler surviving a 6-year term aren`t very good. If Hechler is elected to the Senate he would be just like Byrd was in his final years: An old goat at the mercy of his handlers.

I don`t want to belabor the point, but if you have to put on a hearing aid, dentures, and diapers in the morning, you are too old to be running for anything except president of your nursing home.

Hechler should immediately drop out of the race, and support a younger candidate.
