CHARLOTTE, NC - April 6, 2009 - The Charlotte Literary Festival has announced the newest author added to the Change is Coming to Charlotte event series. On April 18, at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center inside the McGlohon Theatre, come enjoy an evening in the company of Terry McMillan. This is your chance for McMillan to answer those questions you have been yearning to ask, or you can just bask in the presence of an amazing author. As part of this event, McMillan will be interviewed by Omar Tyree live on stage and will take questions from the audience. The event will also include vendors, spoken word performances, comedy by Prince Paul and live Jazz from The Queens Collective.
McMillan is best known for her third novel, Waiting to Exhale, which hardcover release spent more than 38 weeks on the New York bestseller list. It was later made into a film directed by Forest Whitaker that sold out millions of theaters nationwide. But McMillan did not stop there. She wrote her fourth novel, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, after returning from a trip to Jamaica. This novel reached number one on the New York bestseller list, and it remained there for weeks. How Stella Got Her Groove Back hit the big screen and joined Waiting to Exhale as a sold out film. As noted on her website, McMillan is currently working on establishing her own designer texture company featuring dyed linens that were exhibited in Central Park as a benefit for the Harlem Textile Works.
