The Passion of The Passion of the Christ: Part One

When I first saw The Passion of the Christ with my friends from Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), I wasn't sure what my reaction would be when I left the theatre.  But after seeing the movie, I became deeply moved and touched by it.  The Passion of the Christ blew me away completely, along with the rest of the audience.  I remembered one of my friends from IVCF crying during the movie.  Not only was it an amazing and incredible film, but it was also inspirational and touching.  The Passion of the Christ shows us not what WE can do for God, but what GOD can do for us: demonstrate his love through the sacrifice of His only son, Jesus Christ by dying on the cross for our sins to save us.  Through his death and resurrection, we are saved and redeemed.

I was surprised how many people went to see The Passion of the Christ.  But I was even more surprised about Mel Gibson, who wrote and directed as well as financed the film with his own money.  I didn't watch the Primetime Live interview with Diane Sawyer, but finding out that he was born again several years ago amazed me.  I didn't even know about that, but you can never really know someone, can you?  When Gibson told Diane Sawyer that WE -- all of humanity -- killed Jesus, I was shocked.  I didn't know what to say or how to comment on that.  I was speechless.  This is something that I will have to think about for a long time.

But if Jesus hadn't died on the cross for our sins, then we wouldn't be saved.  If Jesus hadn't died on the cross, then we would never have known God through his only son.  If Jesus didn't die for all of us, then our faith would be worthless and nothing.  If Jesus didn't give up his life for all of us, then Christianity would be just like any other religion.  In other words, Christianity would be just one of the religions to hear about it passively.  But Christianity isn't just any other religion.  It is the REAL truth -- based on the eternal word of God.
