Bus Ads Proclaim: Why Believe In God?

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Ads proclaiming, `Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness` sake,` will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.",2933,450445,00.html

Some Christians are outraged by this ad campaign, but the holiday season is for everyone, and humanists have every right to post ads expressing their philosophy.

A few billboards touting a healthy skepticism pale in comparison to the millions of ads, billboards and commercials celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

It`s the poor and the working class who ride the buses, and they are specifically targeted by greedy televangelists. The poor are less educated than the general population, and they are more susceptible to the oily charms of religious charlatans. I`m glad that this demographic is being targeted with a message of healthy skepticism.

You don`t need to believe in the homophobic and intolerant god of the televangelists, or any god, to be a good person. Christians shouldn`t be upset with a message urging people to be good, isn`t that what the Christmas spirit is all about?
