Crazy Haitian Preacher: Give Thanks To God

Crazy Haitian Preacher: Give Thanks To God

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Drumbeats called the faithful to a Sunday Mass praising God amid a scene resembling the Apocalypse...

Sunlight streamed through what little was left of blown-out stained windows as the Rev. Eric Toussaint preached to a small crowd of survivors. A rotting body lay in its main entrance.

`Why give thanks to God? Because we are here,` Toussaint said. `We say `Thank you God.` What happened is the will of God. We are in the hands of God now.`" Read More

This kind of illogical religion-inspired lunacy is heard not only in the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, but also in the most powerful country in the world.

The American airwaves are full of televangelists beseeching the faithful to bless God in the midst of their poverty, and to show their gratitude to the Supreme Being by giving money to their ministries.

In the face of such abject misery and devastation, it would make more sense for the faithful to "curse god and die."

The survivors in Haiti aren`t in the hands of God (not a very safe place to be), but in the hands of their powerful neighbor, the United States. Their salvation lies not in the Almighty, but in the American ships and planes that are bringing in desperately needed food, water, building materials, and medical supplies.
