Malaysia: Tribal Court Fines Cheating Husband 4 Buffalo & A Pig

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A tribal court in Malaysia`s Sabah state on Borneo Island has fined a man and his lover four buffalo and a pig for having an extramarital affair, a report said Sunday.

The pair were convicted by the Penampang Native Court after the man`s wife lodged a complaint, the Star newspaper said. The wife said her husband and the woman were living together and were caught in shorts and sarong when she confronted them." AFP

In some rural sections of Malaysia a mans` worth is measured by how many farm animals he owns. Four buffalo and a pig is a stiff fine for a little nookie. In a few months when the novelty of the affair fades away, the man may wish that he could trade his illicit lover for a scrawny chicken.

In America a person`s worth is measured by how many material possessions he owns. If Sharia law (God forbid) were the law of the land in America, a man caught cheating might have his iPod, laptop and maybe even his car confiscated.

It should be noted that Malaysia practices a kinder and gentler form of Islam; in a lot of Muslim countries adulterers are publicly flogged.

The wife claimed she caught the lovebirds in "shorts and a sarong" when she confronted them, as if that were a scandalous form of attire. If this incident had taken place in America she would have found her husband`s girlfriend sporting a thong and see-through panties.

Allah spare us from spurned wives, and Neanderthal forms of religion.
